Services Questions

How do I apply for a building permit?

To apply for a building permit, follow these steps:

  1. Obtain and complete the building permit application form from our offices or website
  2. Prepare the required documents: 
    • Site plan
    • Building drawings (approved by certified architect)
    • Land title or lease agreement
    • Structural calculations (for buildings over 2 stories)
  3. Submit the completed application with all supporting documents
  4. Pay the required fees
  5. Wait for inspection and approval (typically 14-21 working days)

What is required to register a business?

Business registration requires the following:

  • Completed business registration form
  • Two passport-sized photographs
  • Valid national ID (Ghana Card, Passport, or Driver's License)
  • Business location details
  • Business activity description
  • Payment of registration fees (varies by business type and size)

Processing Time: 3-5 working days after submission of complete documents.

Note: Some specialized businesses may require additional permits or clearances from other agencies.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept various payment methods for your convenience:

  • Cash: At our cash office during working hours
  • Bank Deposit: At any branch of [Designated Bank] to our official account

  • Online Payment: Through our website payment portal
  • Bankers Draft: For large transactions

Note: Always obtain and keep your payment receipt as proof of payment.

How can I check my property rate balance?

You can check your property rate balance through these methods:

  1. Online:
    • Visit our website and use the 'Property Rate Checker' tool
    • Enter your Property ID or Rate Account Number
  2. SMS Service:
    • Send SMS in this format: RATE [Property ID] to XXXXX
    • You'll receive an SMS with your current balance
  3. In Person:
    • Visit the Revenue Collection Unit at our offices
    • Provide your Property ID or last payment receipt

For disputes or corrections, please visit our offices with supporting documents.

Are there penalties for late payments?

Yes, late payments may attract penalties depending on the type of fee or rate:

  • Property Rates: 5% of outstanding amount after 30 days, plus 2% for each additional month
  • Business License Fees: 10% penalty after due date, possible revocation of license after 90 days
  • Building Permit Fees: Work stoppage order until payment is made with 15% penalty
  • Sanitation Fees: 20% penalty after due date, possible court action after 60 days
